Hollywood Hospital LSD room, New Westminster, 1965
Some Norwegian researchers are rediscovering that LSD is potentially a very effective treatment for alcoholism. Hollywood Hospital in New Westminster offered LSD therapy in the 1960s and early 1970s until LSD was completely outlawed, and claimed a success rate of 50% - 80% for curing alcoholics. They also discovered that although it failed to cure homosexuality, LSD therapy helped homosexuals cope in a homophobic society. Patients undergoing the therapy used this room to chill out while listening to classical music and looking at Dali paintings while on acid.

Did you know? AA’s beloved Bill Wilson experimented with LSD. Personally, part of the reason I liked to trip was because I could drink more! So, no, in my experience, it’s not a cure for alkies. I think it would discourage drinking for a few days because of the hangover you get. It’s so intense when you’re tripping, then you have to rest up cuz your body an brain are all…what? I lost another brain cell.
I read somewhere that they are treating schizophrenia with LSD? I simply cannot imagine a world in which they encourage ME to drop acid for my schizo affective disorder. I did it enough when I was young, I got over it. I guess it raised my consciousness to new thoughts, ideas…but it was more: lookee the colors and the music sounds sooooooo fantastic and meaningful.
